Introduction
Choose a television program you feel is at the appropriate level of interest and difficulty for your students. Generally, a half-hour program can be taught in an hour (50-minute) class period. An hour-long episode should take two classroom hours and is treated as two complete lessons with two sets of Vocabulary/Question handouts.

Part 1: Pre-taught program vocabulary (15-20 minutes)

Draw blinds/curtains in room

Check equipment set-up and pre-cued video

Pass out Vocabulary / Question handouts

Discuss type of episode (sitcom, drama, etc.) and anything of note

Describe characters and issues

Go over new words and expressions while students take notes

Explain words with asterisk* and show how relevant to US culture

Part 2: Viewing of episode (22-25 minutes)

Turn off lights

Instruct students to follow along with Vocabulary list
(Vocabulary is in order and in large print for easy reference)

Pop in videocassette

Watch all the way through if half-hour episode

Stop at pre-designated moment if one-hour episode

Turn on lights

Part 3: Post-program Q & A (10 - 20 minutes)

Have student turn handout over to Questions

Have each student read and answer one question

Have most advanced students answer most difficult questions

Have one student ask and another answer questions

Go over Post Questions where applicable

Part 4:Testing (Optional)

Test at appropriate intervals

Test for vocabulary and content or assign opinion essay
